Calling the Called, 2009

Continuing the Work of Jesus...
Step Up...Step In...Step Out...

I heard you calling in the night...
        Here I am Lord...Send me!

Not all can be apostles, prophets or teachers.  Nevertheless, God is calling individuals into the set-apart ministry to fill positions as pastors, chaplains, pastoral counselors, ministers of music, ministers of Christian education, outdoor ministers and a host of leadership ministers.  These persons are important to the body since they help us hear and facilitate the will of God by providing direction and encouragement.  Consider God's call for YOUR ministry at the Virlina District's 2009 Calling the Called Series, "Step Up, Step In, Step Out!"

Session One - Step Up

Speaker: Dawn Ottoni Wilhelm, Associate Professor of Preaching and Worship, Bethany Seminary

Session Three - Step Out

May 31, 2009 - 4:00 p.m.

Now What?  It is Time to Go.

Speaker: Jim Miller, Shenandoah District Executive

All sessions to be held at the Rocky Mount First Church of the Brethren, 405 Tanyard Road, Rocky Mount, VA.

"Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into this harvest field'."  Matthew 9:35-38

"Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness."  Matthew 10:1

The Charge

"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.  Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.  There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.  But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it."  Ephesians 4:1-7

"It was he who gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of fullness of Christ."  Ephesians 4:11-13
